Export Gemini Conversations to PDF, Word, Google Docs or Markdown

Quick answer: Gemini exports one response at a time: under an answer, Share & export offers Export to Docs and Draft in Gmail, and tables get Export to Sheets. There is no PDF or Word option and no way to export a whole conversation as a document.

The free Gemini extension adds PDF, Word, Google Docs and Markdown buttons that export a single response or the entire chat, loading earlier messages first so nothing is missed.

What Gemini can do on its own

Gemini has more built-in export than ChatGPT or Claude, and for a single answer it is often all you need. The limits are about scope, not quality.

Google documents these in its help center: export responses, share a chat and download your Gemini Apps data. If you use Gemini through a Workspace account, your administrator controls which of these are available.

The extension: whole chats, four formats

The AI Chat to Word, PDF & Google Docs for Gemini extension adds a toolbar to gemini.google.com with Google Docs, Word, PDF and Markdown buttons, and the same four under every response.

• A single response: click the button under it. You get that answer only, as a document in the format you chose. Guides: Gemini to PDF, Gemini to Word, Gemini to Google Docs, Gemini to Markdown.
• The entire conversation: click the toolbar button.
  • Gemini keeps only the recent part of a long chat on the page, so the extension first scrolls back to load the earlier messages, showing how many it has gathered, and then exports everything in order.
  • For very long chats this takes a few minutes; a Stop & Export Now button exports what has loaded if you don't want to wait.
• Only Gemini's replies: a checkbox in the extension's settings, Export only Gemini responses, strips your prompts from whole-chat exports.
• Open panels: when a Canvas, a code canvas, a Deep Research report or a Guided Learning panel is open, the toolbar buttons export that panel's content instead of the chat. See exporting a Deep Research report.

The extension also works on Google Search's AI Mode answers and in Google AI Studio, with the same buttons.

What ends up in the file

The files are built from the conversation's content, not a picture of the page:

• Headings, lists and bold text keep their structure.
• Tables are real tables.
• Code blocks keep their indentation.
• Images Gemini generated or you uploaded are embedded.

Equations are the detail people care about: in the Word export they arrive as native, editable Word equations rather than as text, which is why many people export to Word rather than copy and paste.

The PDF is searchable text, and the Markdown file is the format for Notion, Obsidian and other notes tools.
